SC21 demonstrates a commitment to ‘wanting to do better’ from improving manufacturing processes to maintaining higher quality levels and reducing lead times. It can take a lot of hard work and dedication across the business to build momentum, create change and achieve recognition through to bronze, silver or gold SC21 accreditation; but you don’t have to do it alone. As well as the Programme Office team, we have a loyal band of expert champions called ‘Providers’ offering their extensive knowledge and guidance to help you reach your goals.

Through our new monthly Provider Spotlight series, we are shining a light on these mentorship masters and super strategists, sharing who they are and how they can help you in your transformative journey.

First up is Adam Smith, Managing Director of the Inspiring Group, previously ADS Procurement & Supply Chain Limited…

Inspiring Group: Business Improvement Experts

How would you define the role of an SC21 Provider?

An interesting and profound question! I would say something like “A provider is there to offer a guiding hand to organisations that wish to improve. Given we have exposure to clients in multiple sectors, not just those that are covered by ADS Group, we can bring insights and best practice from different angles. Providers consist of people that have worked in industry and understand the challenges faced at the coalface.”

Tell us about Inspiring Group

At Inspiring Group, we support ambitious manufacturers to improve their performance across procurement, operations, and project management. We’re a UK-based consultancy made up of experienced professionals with backgrounds in aerospace, defence, and other advanced manufacturing sectors. Our belief is simple: progress happens when ideas are turned into action.

What do you enjoy about being an SC21 Provider?

We became an SC21 provider because we’ve seen first-hand the impact it can have, with some of our team having been beneficiaries of the programme in previous work lives. Whether it’s embedding smarter procurement processes, eliminating inefficiencies, or sharpening strategic focus, SC21 provides a clear, structured path for continuous improvement. For companies willing to put in the work, the results are transformative, not just in metrics, but in mindset.

What improvements do you see businesses making through the SC21 programme?

One of the things that makes SC21 unique is its flexibility. It sets high standards but allows each organisation to shape the journey in a way that fits its culture and goals. Inspiring Group can support with our hands-on and people-focused support services. We help teams cut through complexity, connect strategy with delivery, and create systems that actually stick.

We know how difficult it is to embed improvement activity when you are having to manage business-as-usual activity. We’ve been there ourselves. This is why third party support can be so valuable. We can create the time and focus to help deliver change.

What advice would you give a new company embarking on SC21?

If you’re new to SC21, our advice is to not go it alone. Bring in the right support early. You’ll save time, avoid false starts, and build stronger foundations for change.

Tell us a little more about you…

As for me, I’ve spent 30 years in industry, from global commercial and operational roles, to working closely with SMEs. I’m passionate about simplifying the complex and helping businesses realise how much value they already hold, which just needs help unlocking.

Outside of work, I spend time on the golf course or walking in the hills with my wife.

And finally…

SC21 is about partnership, performance and pride. At Inspiring Group, we’re proud to be part of that journey.
